Top sights in Biarritz – Losing your way, finding your soul…
The most popular beach in Biarritz is Grande Plage! Without having to lift a finger, you can enjoy the beautiful panorama of Biarritz Lighthouse while you are sunbathing under the striped beach huts. Also, this beach is central to town, so you can easily visit a local supermarket to pick up some supplies for a picnic.
Every special destination has his own part of history, but Biarritz surprises us with his part of the modern and scientific culture – the Cité de l’Océan et du Surf, where you’ll learn all about the ocean. Here, you’ll have the chance to explore a marine lab and dive into a 3D experience of the Gulf of Capbreton. It’s good fun and a great experience for older kids.
Are you a chocoholic? It doesn’t matter if you’re not because the Planète Musée du Chocolat opens the door to the sweet history of chocolate and you’ll be absolutely fascinating. This lovely museum exhibits an amazing gallery of chocolate sculptures made by Serge Couzigou, the master chocolatier and founder of the museum. While you pamper your senses with a homemade hot chocolate drink, you’ll discover five rooms dedicated to the chocolate universe (ceremonial objects, old manufacturing machines, advertising items). It’s a gourmet journey touched by the sweetness of chocolate. Don’t miss it!
For a little bit of silence, you must visit the Chapelle Impériale! Built in 1864 at the imperial request of Eugenie de Montijo, this church combines Romanesque-Byzantine and Hispano-Moorish styles. The plaza in front has a great view of the Grande Plage. You can buy tickets online at the tourist office to avoid queues.
Biarritz has a lot to offer, not for nothing, this place has been the favorite seaside getaway ever since Napoléon III and his Spanish-born wife Eugénie arrived here during the mid-19th century. So, don’t call it a dream, call it a plan visiting this glamorous destination.
