FOOD & CLIMATE
Rome and the surrounding areas in Latium feature a culinary tradition like no others. Wine, olive oil, sausages, and cheese are the genuine treasures of this land. From Roman artichokes and porchetta (whole pig roasted) to figs and chestnuts, you will be spoilt of choice to give a tasteful twist to your holiday.
Our self-catering apartments in Rome are centrally located and within walking distance to restaurants and shops. Within a short promenade, you will be able to enjoy the renowned dishes bucatini all’amatriciana (pasta with guanciale bacon cut into cubes), rigatoni alla carbonara (pasta with egg, bacon cubes and parmesan) and vegetables and legumes soups.
Among the meat dishes, do not miss abbacchio (lamb) and coda alla vaccinara (ox tail). If you are after a light but delicious meal to be eaten while running up and down the city, a fragrant slice of bread with pecorino cheese is the ideal choice.
There are eleven typical DOC wines produced in the area, such as Zagarolo, Frascati and Castelli Romani.
The climate in Rome is usually mild the whole year round. In winter the temperature is pleasant and very few are the days when it drops below zero. In summer, especially in July and August, the heat may be an issue if you plan to walk around and explore the city intensively.
Rainfalls, seldom heavy, are concentrated in the months of November and February. We feel that the best time to visit the city is in spring and autumn, when the temperature is mild and you get the most of the sunlight.
