The refined and seductive Italian paradise
Glamorous, sophisticated, refined and seductive – it is so hard to choose the right adjective to describe the Amalfi Coast. The stunning 50-kilometer stretch of coastline along the southern edge of Italy’s Sorrentine Peninsula, in the Campania region, is legendary and has inspired artists, writers, and such illustrious musicians as Richard Wagner. And it’s little wonder why: Here, vibrant, village-strewn cliffs jut into the sea creating a dramatic union of land, sea and sky.
The famous coastline runs from Punta Campanella to Salerno and includes the picturesque hilltop towns of Positano, Amalfi and Ravello. It is home to Italy’s finest hotels and restaurants, all precariously perched along a beautiful coast of rugged cliffs and sandy coves. Brave the narrow, winding coastal road and discover the hidden treasures of the terraced towns and villages along the way. It’s the most romantic destination, with sheer cliffs and a rugged shoreline dotted with small beaches and pastel-colored fishing villages.
You’d be surprised, but if you’re looking for swimming as an activity, you can do that in Sorrento from May all the way until October.
Amalfi Coast has a great weather in April and May. It’s not as hot during the summer and not as busy. If you’re looking for heat, Sorrento has that – June to September are perfect. Shops and clubs stay open until late in the evening and there’s a buzz in the air from all the tourists.
September until December means it’s still a mild weather, but fewer open shops, with stretches of rain. The crowds of tourists usually leave by the middle of November. But December is another busy time, with most of the action going on in the center.
Looking for the budget option? February and March are your best bets, with somewhat cold and wet days, but still with cafes open and quiet trips to take.
