Weather and Temperature in Greece in Summer

The weather in Greece in Summer epitomizes a Mediterranean summertime. Prepare for an effortlessly relaxing holiday, where you won’t need to pack much besides your swimwear and light flowy fabrics.

June

June marks the start of the summer season, debuting average temperatures of 24°C to 26°C, although there can be quite significant temperature variations between islands. June is also the driest month of summer, with very little to no rainfall seen. The Aegean Sea warms to a pleasant 22°C on average, meaning June is one of the first months when the waters are mild enough to take a dip.

July and August

There’s not a lot of variation in weather conditions during July and August. They both adopt the warmest conditions of the year in Greece, feeling very hot and dry with average temperatures of 27°C – 33°C. The sun rises at 6.30 am and doesn't set until 8.30 pm, so there’s no escaping the heat during the day.

Southern islands like Crete see temperatures soar above 30°C, whereas areas further north such as Corfu have a more comfortable average climate. The UV index is between 9-10, meaning there is a high health risk from unprotected sun exposure, so it’s essential to use proper skin and eye protection.

You can expect an intermittent, light breeze along the coast, which will have a much-welcomed cooling effect, and very minimal rainfall across the two summer months. Whether you’re a watersports enthusiast, or just like to dip your toe in to cool down, the Aegean sea hovers between an inviting 25°C and 26°C.

September

If you’re wanting to catch the last of the summer in Greece, the start of September is the perfect time to go. The middle of the month begins to see signs remnant of summer fade and signs of autumn filtering through. Temperatures cool to a still very comfortable 24°C – 25°C, with the evenings temperatures around 18°C, which still feels very balmy. Wind speed gradually falls throughout the month, although rainfall volume increases.
