The best option is to make your reservation through a travel agency. British Airways offer 7 flights weekly (May–Oct) from Heathrow or London City to Mykonos. Mykonos airport, 3km from town, has taxi service (€15–23 depending on destination) and far less frequent shuttle buses (two public bus stations).
There are many options – rent a car, scooter or ATV. There is a very good option… if you are more and you don’t want to stay with care for various reasons – maybe you want to drink a glass of wine at the beach or you don’t want to drive on the steep roads of the island – you can rent a car with a driver.
Explore the capital
Chora is a beautiful ancient historic town and also the capital of Mykonos. In this place you can admire whitewashed houses with blue doors and window frames, purple bloom trees and hidden churches. For a little history, don’t forget to visit Folklore, Maritime and Archaeological Museums.
If you are a shopper, you can wander around the pedestrian shopping streets and you can find the variety of souvenirs and shops. For brand name stores and stylish restaurants, you can visit the Matoyánni Street. One of the places you don’t want to miss is Alefkántra or “Little Venice”, an 18th century district, dominated by grand captains’ mansions with colourful balconies and stylish windows. Another traditional settlement of Mykonos is the village Áno Merá, situated around the historic monastery of Panayia Tourliani, at just 8 km east of Chora. This village is a historical landmark and was founded by monks in 1542.
The archaeological site of Delos
One of the most famous archaeological sites in Greece is Delos island, located 2 kilometers west from Mykonos. The whole island was declared a national museum.
According to a legend, the island of Delos was made to appear from the depths by Poseidon’s trident. He remained a floating island until Zeus bound it to the bottom of the sea with diamond chains.

A number of seven mills have been preserved, out of the ten mills that until the beginning of the 20th century grinded local wheat using the constant wind power.

Best Beaches in Mykonos

It is located in Ornos Beach – one of the most developed resorts of Mykonos, and the most family-friendly beach on Mykonos. This is the longest beach on Mykonos. In high season, there are 5 or 6 buses per day from Mykonos Town to Elia. There is also a boat from Platis Gialos to Elia. Don’t worry if you have a rental car, this is a place with parking lots.
This beach is dedicated for party lovers, with many bars spilling out onto the sand. After the sun goes down, the party just gets louder. Buses go directly from Mykonos Town to Paradise Beach.
Agios Ioannis Beach
5 km south of Mykonos Town, this beach is a beautiful and a quiet place. You can arrive here with a bus direct from Mykonos Town.

This island attracts sailors and surfers from all over the world! You can take surfing lessons in Kórfos, Fteliá, Meyáli Ámmos and Kalafátis.

Best time to visit Mykonos
The warmest season in Mykonos is between June and September when it’s sunny, hot and the water is perfect for swimming. Water temperature heats throughout the Summer months and is warmest in August and September. Since most people go to Mykonos for the beaches (and related nightlife) it’s pretty quiet here in May and October though the weather is still quite nice.
What about food?
Mykonos is famous for its wide variety of appetizers such as kopanisti, ksinotira, louza and sausages, but also for wines. The thick yoghurt, honey, mykonian cheese pies, platters full of various kinds of grilled meats, a rich assortment of limes, Greek salad… are just a few of the basic menus in Mykonos.
There are also many vegetables, such as horta, gemista (tomatoes or peppers filled with rice), bryan (a kind of fried vegetable stew) or fasolakia (green beans usually made with oil, potatoes and tomatoes).
Among the traditional island products that have become famous in the world, there are also kopanişti, an assortment of cheese with a strong flavor and spicy taste. Serve this specialty with lettuce and cucumber salad and combine also with a sparkling wine and ouzo.
For dessert, choose amygdalota with his special flavor and drink the famous soumada, traditional soft drink.
